EMDR INTENSIVE PROGRAM
EMDR Intensive Therapy Program
Are you looking for a therapeutic treatment for anxiety, depression, grief and loss, or trauma that you have experienced?
This program is designed to be delivered in an intensive format (2-3 hours per day) for 3 days in one week. This is equivalent to more than 2 months worth of traditional weekly therapy!
The program will be highly customized for you and guided by our EMDR trained therapist, Jessi Robertson, MS, LMFT.
Sometimes weekly therapy doesn't seem like enough. Or you might feel that at times you are making progress but then your weekly hour of time is up and you have to wrap up your thoughts and feelings and hold on until the next week. Or maybe you want to dedicate a week of time to really grow and care for yourself, without having to juggle your schedule for weeks at a time....
This format will allow for extended session times to really dig into those difficult memories or experiences that have had, and to begin deepening the work of your core experiences.
When you purchase this package, one of our team members will reach out to you within one business day to schedule your initial consultation with Jessi and to book your intensive sessions. You may receive several emails that will be important to getting started in the program, so please be on the lookout for those!
What is EMDR? Why an Intensive?
This model considers symptoms of PTSD and other disorders (unless physically or chemically based) to result from past disturbing experiences that continue to cause distress because the memory was not adequately processed. These unprocessed memories are understood to contain the emotions, thoughts, beliefs and physical sensations that occurred at the time of the event. When the memories are triggered these stored disturbing elements are experienced and cause the symptoms of PTSD and/or other disorders.
Unlike other treatments that focus on directly altering the emotions, thoughts and responses resulting from traumatic experiences, EMDR therapy focuses directly on the memory, and is intended to change the way that the memory is stored in the brain, thus reducing and eliminating the problematic symptoms.
During EMDR therapy, clinical observations suggest that an accelerated learning process is stimulated by EMDR’s standardized procedures, which incorporate the use of eye movements and other forms of rhythmic left-right (bilateral) stimulation (e.g., tones or taps). While clients briefly focus on the trauma memory and simultaneously experience bilateral stimulation (BLS), the vividness and emotion of the memory are reduced.
The treatment is conditionally recommended for the treatment of PTSD.
While some therapists provide EMDR in the traditional model of weekly or one hour therapy sessions, EMDR often requires extended session times to allow a client to process memories, take breaks as needed, and to properly wrap up sessions so that the client feels more calm and centered and not rushed. The longer session format also gives your therapist the flexibility to guide you into a deeper processing session without the confines of a 50-minute session or other clients waiting in the lobby for the next therapy hour.
I have designed this intensive program to be able to offer a deeper level of work to my clients, to dedicate more time to each one individually, and to allow my clients and myself to feel more relaxed in the healing process. I do think it is important to allow for breaks during this treatment, which is why we will typically schedule your sessions in up to 3 hour intervals every other day. This will give your brain and your body some rest and time to absorb the work, and will also ideally give you a great deal of relief from one or more targeted distressing memories or experiences.
I believe in this model and this format! We know that this is a process and is not a guarantee to give you total or complete relief in one week, but often through EMDR treatment people report that they feel like they are able to start making meaning of their actions, beliefs, and emotions in ways that they never have before.
If you have questions or are not sure if this is the right program for you, please reach out and I will be more than happy to discuss your options with you!
